Why it works
Dr Lovell-Smith explains:
Your body is very intelligent. It will tell you when you need to eat. It gives you a message when it is ready to digest food and when it has enough to go on with, thanks very much.

You probably know these signals as hunger and satiety. Over the years I decided to drop the term hunger because I found so much confusion surrounding it both from my patients and in the medical literature. As one authority in the field, Dr Henry Janowitz said: "Hunger... should be banished for the sake of linguistic peace." I fully agree with Dr Janowitz, so you won't see it mentioned anywhere else on this site! Instead I came up with two words that get to the heart of the matter - DigestionReady. We should eat when we are ready to digest the food.

Luckily eating when we are ready to digest the food turns out to be way more fun!
Eat when you are ready to digest the food. For various reasons, even though it's more fun, many of us don't do it. The reasons are many and varied. They include eating when others are eating, seeing tempting food in a cake shop and high pressure food advertising on TV. As a result, we tend to overload ourselves with food. This is one of the main reasons we get sick. Fortunately the solution is simple. Just listen to your body and properly interprete its cues. That is what you will learn when you embark on the DigestionReady™ programme.

Is that it then? Just eat when you're ready for it? Pretty much. And if you like, you can go away and try it on your own. Over the years though and after introducing hundreds of patients to the idea, I have found it takes time to pierce the veil of confusion that surrounds the notion of hunger and to create what is for most, an entirely new habit. I have found my patients really appreciate reminders and encouragement so that they know they are on the right track. So that is why I put together the DigestionReady™ programme. We train you to tune into your body. It also saves me from having to repeat myself over and over again!
